Not every movie star is the coolest and most handsome person.

　　American comedic actor Ben Stiller has a long, impressive list of film credits to his name. As a highly successful movie producer, director, screenwriter, comedian, and voice actor, Stiller is one of the biggest names in Hollywood.

　　Born Benjamin Edward Stiller on November 30, 1965, in New York City to legendary comedians Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara, Stiller grew up among the stars. At an early age, Stiller and his sister would exchange clothes and perform Shakespearean plays at home. The future star worked in the theater for years before acting in Hollywood, performing in the Tony Award-winning play The House of Blue Leaves.

　　In 1987, Stiller made his big screen debut in Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun. He also produced and starred in the parody film The Hustler of Money, a parody of 1986's The Color of Money starring Tom Cruise and Paul Newman. This led to his being hired as a writer and occasional appearances as a cast member on Saturday Night Live. Then, Stiller won an Emmy Award for The Ben Stiller Show. Even though the show earned praise from critics, audiences were less impressed, and ratings were low.

　　Stiller's roles in Hollywood feature films eventually allowed him to flourish as a comedic actor. In 1998, There's Something about Mary propelled him into the mainstream spotlight and Meet the Parents, as well as the sequel Meet the Fockers, finally established Stiller as a top-grossing A-list comedian. Stiller's starring roles also include Keeping the Faith, Zoolander, and The Heartbreak Kid. Currently one of America's most popular performers, part of Stiller's appeal is that he often plays characters who find themselves in extremely awkward or very embarrassing situations. This everyman style shows his characters' vulnerability and is something that is easy for audiences to connect with.
