Jumping for Joy

Diving is one of the most beautiful sports in the world.
As a person stands on the edge, the blood starts pumping, and the heart is racing. Once they hit the thin air, for about two seconds they feel like a bird plunging down the sky _(1)_ 55 miles per hour. Finally, a huge splash of water cools the body immediately and the _(2)_ stops in one second. This is cliff diving, and it has been around for hundreds of years.
King Kahekili of Maui, Hawaii started jumping off 63-foot-high cliffs at Kaunolu Bay in 1770. He was nicknamed the birdman, and he loved using cliff diving as a way to test the courage of his soldiers. Rumor _(3)_ it that Kahekili loved cliff diving so much that he even jumped off cliffs that were 400 feet in height.
Modern extreme sports are very _(4)_ and costly. They can require years of training and expensive equipment to compete in.
