The Allure of Jeans(b)|无法抵挡的时尚魅力

　　Originally cherished for their ruggedness, jeans evolved over the decades into a fashion statement for both males and females. The fact that blue jeans become more comfortable and faded with every wash and, therefore, rather individualistic helped make the clothing popular. The reason blue was chosen is that indigo dye was found to be the least troublesome for coloring the cotton fibers in denim. Since indigo doesn't penetrate deeply into the denim, it also means that specks come off with washing, leading to the faded-jeans look.

　　First considered clothing for men, especially those working in mines, factories and fields, the indigo-colored garments also caught fire with females. However, it was not until 60 years after the invention of jeans that the first pairs for women, Lady Levi's, were manufactured in 1934. Most of the female customers for jeans at that time were women working on ranches. Later, during the 1950s, wearing jeans began to symbolize a type of rebelliousness because of movies like Rebel Without a Cause, in which actor James Dean battled against authority while clad in jeans. Similarly, in The Wild One, a cool and tough Marlon Brando wore denim, adding to the material's appeal.

　　As a symbol of America, especially the Old West, jeans began to catch on outside of the United States. As American soldiers living overseas in Europe and Japan wore them while they were off-duty, people in those places became exposed to jeans and saw them as representing a desirable way of life. Today, jeans continue to be popular casual wear, coming in a large variety of colors and styles.
