From Disney to hip-hoppers, video mapping's popularity is increasing all the time.
Eschewing the traditional ways of album promotion in 2013, Kanye West projected a huge close-up video of him rapping the words to his song, New Slaves, on buildings in numerous cities around the world. These striking events not only caught the attention of people nearby, but they also caught fire on the Internet and created a lot of buzz for his album, Yeezus.
_(1)_ As a matter of fact, the first use of 3D projection was on Disneyland's Haunted Mansion ride in 1969. The creators there projected creepy faces onto disembodied heads to scare the bejesus out of riders. _(2)_
Nowadays, video mapping is all the rage and graphic designers are willing to push the envelope. _(3)_ At a video mapping conference in Spain in 2011, the background for the artists was a three-story mansion with 27 windows and four pillars. _(4)_ Balls of paint blasted out of all the windows, oversized hands used the pillars like guitar strings, and at certain points, video game characters from the 1980s gave the installation a throwback feeling.
Video mapping is now done for a lot of big concerts and events and even for highly-specialized advertising. Many people involved in the video industry are now excited because of the endless possibilities of video mapping. _(5)_
(A) Since Disney, video mapping has become more and more popular.
(B) Born in 1977, Kanye West lived with his grandparents in Chicago during his childhood.
(C) Instead of just projecting onto flat screens, artists can display their videos on any objects, with their only limits being what their brains can come up with.
(D) Widely considered to be a creative genius, Kanye West is exploring those possibilities and letting video mapping take us into the future.
(E) They went wild when they were asked to demonstrate the newest technology and used every nook and cranny of the interesting background to make very trippy visuals.
(F) That was not the first time video mapping was used to make a spectacle, though.
