Are Convenience Stores Good for Us?|便利商店是好邻居吗?

范文

Convenience stores have made our lives much easier over the years. There are many reasons why convenience stores have become so popular. First, they allow customers to do a large variety of things. Customers can pay bills, pick up groceries and a variety of delicious snacks, and claim items they ordered online. You can also get items like pens, umbrellas, beer, and even TV sets.

Besides the benefits mentioned above, another nice feature of convenience stores is that they offer an inviting atmosphere that makes people feel at home. This may be one reason some people go to convenience stores many times every day. However, according to statistics, there are more than 9,000 convenience stores around the island, which is quite a lot for a population of 23 million. So maybe the government should do something to control the number of convenience stores, because too many convenience stores may lead to a waste of energy. But all in all, the benefits of convenience stores outweigh their disadvantages.

Many people would likely say the rapid growth of convenience stores is a positive development. After all, the abundance of 7-Elevens, FamilyMarts, and other convenience stores provides us with convenience and variety. However, there is also a negative side to all this convenience. Among the cons of the proliferation of convenience stores is the ease with which people, including teenagers, can purchase alcohol and cigarettes. This makes it too easy for people to get and use substances that aren't healthy for them.

There is another downside to all these convenience stores as well. As businesses that operate around the clock, seven days a week, they consume a lot of electricity, especially for lighting, air-conditioning, and refrigeration. The question that must be asked is, "Is all this convenience actually worth the extra carbon emissions?" From an environmental rather than economic viewpoint, the answer that many would come up with is, "No, it isn't." It may be time for corporations that operate convenience stores to rethink their expansion plans.
