Taiwan Ranked Fourth in Emerging Economies
The Times Higher Education (THE) ranked the top 100 universities in Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa as well as 17 other emerging economies and released the results in December of 2013. Taking four of the top 10 positions, China is confirmed as the strongest nation in the world's first ranking of this kind. China is home to almost one quarter of the universities on the list, with 23 placing in the top 100. Taiwan has 21 representatives, with National Taiwan University coming in fourth overall. The rankings are based on the same 13 tried-and-true, distinct, and rigorous performance indicators used to create the world rankings. They cover all aspects of the modern university's core missions like teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.

Bibles for Weapons in the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic is experiencing appalling levels of violent crime. Shootings and stabbings occur with alarming frequency, some by children as young as nine, and the country's prisons are filling up. When the chief of police in the city of Puerto Plata asked the Bible Society to help tackle this problem, it readily agreed.
Recently, its Bibles for Weapons campaign, launched in September of 2012 and widely publicized by the media, has been met with an overwhelming response. Thousands of people from all walks of life have already attended events in two cities, lining up to hand over their knives, machetes, firearms, and other dangerous weapons to the police and getting Bibles in return.
