Practical Skills vs. Educational Qualifications

实务技能和文凭哪一项比较重要呢？

　　As far as I'm concerned, practical skills are superior to educational qualifications for a variety of reasons. First of all, it is common for university graduates to have a difficult time finding suitable employment. Employers mostly look for people with specific training and related experience. University graduates have a lot of academic knowledge learned from books but few or no practical skills. Consequently, university students may end up wasting time getting a degree that is almost useless.

　　Secondly, people who gain practical experience from studying a trade typically find jobs in their fields. This is because they have the training and experience that employers desire. As a result, people who study a trade don't have to worry about being unable to find work. To me, gaining practical skills by studying a trade is much better than studying for educational qualifications.

　　对我来说，实力胜过学历的原因有很多。首先，现在大学毕业生普遍很难找到合适的工作。雇主大部份都要找有受过特定训练以及有相关工作经验的人。大学毕业生拥有不少来自书上的理论知识，但却很可能仅有很少或完全没有实务经验。因此，大学生最后可能浪费时间拿到的是一个几乎没有用处的学位。

　　其次，学习某项技艺而从中获取实务经验的人，通常会在该领域中找到工作。这是由于他们拥有雇主所期望的职前训练及经历。因此，学习某项技艺的人就不用担心找不到工作。对我来说，学习某项技艺而获取实际经验远胜于为了学历而读书。

　　Personally, educational qualifications are more important than practical skills. When people study a trade, they do learn practical skills that can help them find jobs. However, the jobs that they are able to get may not have high salaries or opportunities for future advancement. This means that they will probably be unhappy in their low-paying jobs.

　　On the other hand, people who study at a university and get a bachelor's or master's degree are more likely to have better and more rewarding careers. Rather than learning a practical skill that can only be used in a few ways, these people have gained a lot of general skills. This gives them an advantage and means they have more choices regarding the type of work they can get. Therefore, people who obtain educational qualifications will be more successful than those who simply learn practical skills.

　　就我而言，学历比实务技能更为重要。人们在学习某项手艺时，他们从中学到的实务技能的确能帮助他们找到工作。不过，他们能找到的工作可能未必能让他们获得高薪，或是在未来获得晋升的机会。这也就是说，他们很可能不满自己的低薪工作。

　　另一方面说来，就读大学并拿到大学或硕士学位的人比较可能获得更好且薪水更高的工作。这些人并非只学习一种只能用在某些地方的实务技能，而是学到了许多一般性的技能。这给了他们优势，也意味着他们对于能获得的工作型态有更多的选择。因此，取得学历的这些人会比那些只学习某些实务技能的人更能成功。
