Taiwan Initiates Cloud Seeding|『

Taiwan Initiates Cloud Seeding

The Central Weather Bureau performed cloud seeding in response to the ongoing dry spell which has plagued Taiwan, officials recently announced. The government continued to use this method until the beginning of May. They said that the bureau previously intended to launch cloud seeding near the Shimen Reservoir, but insufficient water in the atmosphere halted the operation.

Premier Jiang Yi-huah paid a visit to the Shimen Reservoir to inspect the conditions of Taiwan's water crisis, in which reservoirs had been suffering a consistent water shortage. Due to the low rainfall as well as an early end to last year's typhoon season, the Water Resources Agency previously announced that Taiwan was at risk of a water shortage.

Wang Returns to Yankees for Minor League Tryout

According to reports, Taiwanese pitcher Wang Chien-ming had a tryout for scouts at the New York Yankees' minor league complex in Tampa, Florida in a bid to get a new contract from his former team. Foreign news outlets had reported that the Yankees were interested in signing him after he pitched 12 scoreless innings for Taiwan in the World Baseball Classic earlier this year.

The 32-year-old right-hander recorded 19 wins in two consecutive seasons for the Yankees, but suffered a foot injury in 2008 from which he never fully recovered before leaving the team. Since then, many Major League Baseball teams had been interested in Wang's performance. However, the General Manager of the Yankees, Brian Cashman, said, "If Wang was going to do a minor-league deal somewhere, I think he would probably prefer it to be here."
